Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 139 – 5/4/2018

today, i re-member, is the 48th anniversary of  Kent State and as if it is happening in this moment, i’m transported to that day when it echoed around the world that four were dead in Ohio as we protested the Vietnam war…

today as i prepare to go on re-treat, i hear of a powerful volcano rocking the Big Island of  Hawaii and i re-member CG Jung saying we all live at the edge of a volcano which brings me to the dynamic founder of  a revolutionary collective, Tree Sisters whose mission is to plant a billion trees…

join with me in listening to Clare’s personal story of transformation and join in this movement by becoming a TreeSister or TreeBrother…

~

This is a first for me. I want to try to write about something incredibly personal, because I think the gift of it needs to extend beyond my own experience. I’m not sure that I will do it justice but I’m going to try. I’ll offer it up as a seed to be planted into the soil of our collective consciousness in case it can grow.

We just escaped the floods in Kauai by a few short days. It feels so strange, counting yourself lucky for ‘getting out in time’, when many of the places that blessed us are now underwater, and new friends that we met have lost everything.

The experience was a lot on every level. The weather felt unstable, angry and confused from the moment we got there. A tropical island with temperatures in the 50’s. Folks running around trying to buy heaters in a place that doesn’t need to sell them. Incessant wind and rain that felt like it was trying to be heard and paid attention to. I was listening, but I was also afraid.

There I was, hiding from the rain, looking at images of the vast die off of sea creatures knee deep on UK shore lines, as Siberian cold snaps had their way. Watching New York go under snow again. Reading about the Gulf Stream slowing down and people seemingly finally joining the dots about the level of climate chaos that would point to, and the people around me are unsettled in a way that animals show unease before an earthquake happens. I’ve been weeping over the science of climate change for two decades or more, and yet as it unfolds my animal body is not prepared. More about that later…

Kauai had been calling me, and I went there fully aware that I was choosing a rebirth. I wanted to walk into the sea one version of myself, and reemerge another. I was fed up with my fears. Sometimes it is a person in our lives that shows us to ourselves so clearly that we can make a quantum leap. Sometimes it is a place, or the being of a place. For me it was a living Pacific island.

I’m not sure what I expected, but as soon as we landed I could feel Her energy. One word for it. Mother. And she was swift to introduce Herself.

I knew nothing about Kauai; the lands, the people, what had been done to them, the critically endangered species everywhere, the wild weather, the radical beauty, the sumptuousness, fragility or the feeling of being on the patch of land further away from anywhere else on the planet – and still picking up so much plastic from the beaches.

Our new friend and amazing guide Tanya, an Oregon based treesister who knew that it was time for me to come, shared her home with us and steadily began to share the history, legends, suffering, miracles and her deep love of this place. I want to share a particular moment from the fourth day of our trip.

We were on the north west coast, close to Ke’e, being taken by a friend of hers onto private land being held as a bird sanctuary; land that was ancient settlement turned forest. Taro field terraces draped across a sacred valley. Home and temple remains hugged the drenched and fertile jungle ground. To the owner, this place apparently held the first Ha’ou (Hawaiian temple) and the birthplace of Hula. All I knew was that as soon as I stepped into that forest, everything changed.

A few feet in, my eyesight shifted and I started to wobble on my feet. Light was radiating off every surface and my consciousness was getting muddled. As we climbed terrace after terrace, huge black volcanic rock walls now home of the trees, I felt less and less of this world and more and more freaked out. At one point, I simply hit a wall of light and stopped. ‘The entrance to the Ha’ou’ I was informed. A sacred place still so potent that it requested conscious entry. When I stepped across the threshold my perceptions split so acutely, I knew I couldn’t walk any further and had to sit down. I sat between two levels in the temple and held onto my head for dear life.

As my friends continued up the valley side, I could see ripples of light radiating towards me like reverse ripples on a pond. Like I was being sensed by the place, over and over and over again. I literally started praying to the trees to hold me safe as my internal vision was taken back to witness the birth of Hawaii.

(The head, breast, belly, legs and feet of Mother Goddess Kalalea – the birthing place of souls)

A feminine presence that is totally indescribable erupted from beneath Earth’s crust. I felt Her choose Her spot with radical precision, and blast through like a Goddess throwing back her head with wild abandon and laughter. She was the very embodiment of raw, uncensored, volcanic, feminine power.

I felt Her growing Her body with layers and layers of molten rock turned to muscle and bone, as if through my own body. I got to feel the vibrant consciousness alive within every inch of stone, soil, plant and water. I could feel how She senses and responds. Just how completely aware of everything She is.

Hawaiians speak about their deities as living beings of place. Beyond my limited comprehension of the elemental kingdom, the beings of Hawaii still hold much authority and if my experience is anything to go by, are still very much alive. This was the first of what I can only describe as multiple transmissions of leadership training from Pele – and yes I do sound ridiculous. But. And. I cannot unfeel what I just felt.

That wild beingness was of a level of power, intelligence and undeniability that I knew could alter the whole chemical makeup or magnetism of that island rock with a flick of Her will. She was immediate not slow, and I was left, having stumbled back down the valley and out of the forest, no longer able to relate to the apparency of climate change in the way that I had before.

Here we are, living in this weird dissociated state, when there are levels of relationship and intimacy available with the beingnesses of this planet, so profound that we have no concept of what could be possible. I’m struck again and again by the realization that we have no idea what we actually are as human beings, and by the words that I heard at the crash that gave me TreeSisters: ‘Women have to remember who and what they really are – feminine consciousness has to be reinstated, or its over’.

Clare SunsetOne thing is clear. We need to gather. We need that exponential potency born of collective consciousness and the intentional dropping beyond what we know ourselves to be. It’s time to bow to the sacredness of all life including ourselves, in ways that we have yet to comprehend. To ask to be shown. To sit in radical humility. To let the versions of ourselves that we’ve been wedded to give way to who and what we are capable of being on behalf of every species and this planet in massive transition. It’s time for rebirth; huge, chosen, bowed to, demanded, and we are not alone.

We can be as intimate with the beings of this world as we allow ourselves to be, through the levels of presence that we choose to inhabit in our lives. Kauai called me and I went to Her. She must have known that She had the exact medicine that I needed to shed the skin that was ready to go, but I was also clear that I wanted Her help. I feel like I am starting to grow up in a whole new way that is literally Earth led.

So can we do that? Can we consciously call forth the support and transmissions of the places, nature and beings of this planet to help show us who we really are, and how to live as HumanKind – as restorers – as architects of ‘heaven as Earth’ instead of hell – as the protectors of the future generations? And can we start to act like the ones that will actively restore our world whilst we discover how to shift our consciousnesses and culture?

Yes we can. It has to be what we’re for. Surely it has to be now.

This lifetime is a privilege beyond words and each of us has an opportunity to make it count in ways that even yesterday seemed inconceivable. Nature knows us way better than we know ourselves…how about we ask Her what we’re for?

In sisterhood and for the trees,
Clare

P.S. If you would like to step in as a monthly member on behalf of the trees in a green, leafy and oxygen rich way, then you can do that here. Thank you for caring and for giving back!

being on the magical mystery tour is to experience every moment as exploration into inner and outer space, as opening to awe and wonder, returning to divine child consciousness totally present in the now as compassionate witnesses to what is, period… the sacred space of being like a puppy dog frolicking on the beach free as the wind… what a blessing to share the journey of life with you…

mystery before us

mystery behind us

mystery beside us

mystery below us

mystery above us

mystery within us

mystery surrounding us

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 137 – 5/2/2018

a favorite teacher of mine, Albert Einstein, reminds us that no matter how long we live to always stand like a curious child before Great Mystery…

today, i am also reminded of a transformational moment and, yes, the moment is the teacher of love… when i was a college student, following a nirvana experience i real-eyesed all there is, is love and wanted to revolutionize education to speak, study, read only of love…

it is mahalo may, what better time to resurrect that almost half a century old call for a love revolution…

may we greet each miraculous moment, each teacher of love, with wonder

may we open the cracks in our one heart to cosmic love’s  healing power

may we embrace great mystery’s flow

may we dance lightly on the path of reverence melting into cosmic love’s radiant glow

may we be a caravan of re-joy-sing

may all bells resonate to the same ring

always being love, always becoming love

namaste’

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 136 – 5/1/2018

i’m breaking tradition on this first day of may, this may day, this global love day, this international workers day, this high holy day of  bealltainn (the gaelic spelling) which means bright fire…

in days long ago, the people would light bonfires and shepherd sheep and cows through the night to green pastures… halfway between equinox and solstice, this day has been celebrated as a time of fertility and abundance…

so, instead of starting mahalo may with the blessing of new beginnings, let’s seed our fertile imaginations with three quest ions, three charged particles, sending us on a quest for the metaphorical holy grail…

what gives me life in this moment?

what is my soul longing deeply for now?

what’s wanting to flower?

now, as we dance around the maypole, the tree of abundant life, may we dance these quests and deepen our earth grounding with every breath until we arrive in the core of our being, sacred space of honoring all our relations…

here in the watery womb of divine mother earth, the stillpoint of creation, we saunter along the transformational pathway of magic, of changing consciousness, transmuting the small mystory into the ever expanding cosmic mystery, source of all being…

may we be filled to overflowing throughout the merry, merry month of may and the magical mystery tour of life with divine love and light emanating from great mystery’s wellspring… the ever flowing river below the river of joy, ocean of peace..

deep bows and boundless gratitude for the beauty of the earth and for all the children of the earth doming into  sacred balance…

blessed bee, beloveds…

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 135 – 4/30/2018

this day, the last day of awakened april, walpurgis eve, the night to go wild with our bodies filtering sensations and perceptions through a rainbow lens cleansing all doors and windows so that our one heart refracts the light streaming in as an illuminated spiral path perfect for dancing and running naked whirling in the center of the turning wheel of life always being and becoming love… the day we bless the space between us as we close the circle on another moon or month of turning around the sun…

let us take this moment, this beautiful moment to bless this space we share… this deep space of awakening fire as the sun shone through aries now moving into grounding profoundly in the core of our being, dropping down into the rich nurturing earth of taurus…

this space of listening deeply as great mystery hums our soul song through us and we echo it to each other… to return, return, return to love by opening our one heart to divine flow’s breathing us, dreaming us,  singing us, praying us, dancing us, comforting us, supporting us, freeing us, animating us, blessing us, consecrating us in this moment, in every beautiful moment…

may we dance rainbow mystery devotedly

may we be more loving than ever before for the well being of all

may we be more compassionate than ever before for the well being of all

may we be more harmonious than ever before for the well being of all

with every breath, may we all be liberated

with every step, may we all come home to our one heart…

namaste, beloveds…

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 134 – 4/29/2018

such a wealth of riches to celebrate on this next to the last day of awakened april, a quintessence of events mirroring the five elements… it’s the full moon in the water sign of scorpio, and it’s lunar beltane when we celebrate the midpoint between equinox and soustice with fire rituals letting go of what no longer serves and it’s our moment to celebrate the astonishing lightness of being by breathing in the air, the whispering wind inspiriting us and breathing out the light transmuted into love… it was arbor day on friday and the tree of life seems so perfect as an image for the lightness of being and he abundance of the earth of being and such a beautiful symbol of the element of ether, of love, unconditional love…

trees, our breath, teach us generosity as mothers of nourishment creating one vast network of trillions and trillions of roots intertwined as one, flooding the struggling with juice, receiving the dying standing talls’ marrow…

not i, only we, this network of generosity, this unfolding synarchy… let’s breathe in deeply filling ourselves with each  breath and letting go/ surrendering/softening through our soles with each outbreath…

smiling, we come deeper and deeper home with every breath… allowing… accepting… embracing

feeling our soles on the warm, mossy, forest floor syncing into the soil below while our limbs are outstretched toward the sky… we open deeply to pure presence as we bathe in the stillness and dance in the forest field…

let’s bow deeply to all our relations thanking each other for the sacred circle of life we are…

always being love…

namaste’…

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 133 – 4/28/2018

all wisdom is within

all strength is within

all there is, is love…

the powerful full moon in scorpio is in full illumination tomorrow at 5:58 PM PDT giving us the energy to transform, to tune into the power of  imagination, to walk our talk as pilgrims, poets on a journey home to the heart of peace built on a just balance always guided by love…

let us draw down and surrender to the changes pouring forth from the watery moon…

we are opening… we are surrendering… we are accepting the flow of  life… we know we are always divinely supported… we know we carry the wisdom inside. we know we carry truth inside… we know we carry strength inside… everything is unfolding perfectly…

we surrender and accept wholeheartedly life in all its iterations… we soften into the knowing that we are love, loved and loving…

we are now free knowing we are held in the sheltering arms of great spirit…

blessed be!

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 132 – 4/27/2018

this earth day is one of celebration as our earth citizen chant, may peace prevail on earth, took a giant leap forward with it being the first time a North Korean leader has ever set foot inside South Korea… during this historic meeting, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said “I came here to put an end to the history of confrontation.”  the South Korean President, Moon Jae-In, proclaims, ” Kim Jong-un and I declared together that there will be no more war on the Korean Peninsula and a new age of peace has begun…”

yes, today, indeed, is a celebration for all world citizens/siddhizens …

peace prevails on earth!

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 131 – 4/26/2018

on this earth day, will you join me in listening to an ancient story of opening our hearts to our true nature of wisdom, of radiance, an incandescence that always burns fiercely, magnificently at the core of being no matter how overwhelming things are for our little selves… notice where this story pulls you as we walk home together on the path of transformation…

once upon a time, a young woman was feeling abandoned and overwhelmed at the loss of love… fear clutched her, overwhelmed her and she went searching for a cure for love in the marketplaces, in the temples and nothing would open her heart… she heard tell of a sage who lived in a cave high up on a mountain that towered over her village and so she began the arduous journet to connect with the sage within the cave… she found him bent over a fire in the cave and asked if he had a cure for love and he asks her to return in three days for an answer and she sits in the unknowing of whether there’s a cure and returns as requested…

the sage tells her he has all the ingredients for a love cure save one – would she be willing to get this ingredient? of course she would, nothing was as important… the sage tells hershe needed to bring him the whisker of a living tiger, a whisker from around his mouth close to his teeth… she protests that she is not up to such a dangerous assignment and he reminds her that she said she would gladly find the one missing ingredient and so she makes her way down the mountain and back to her hut where she continues to contemplate this overwhelming task while feeling more abandoned than ever… as she eats her dinner of rice, it comes to her that tigers have to eat as well and she fixes a bowl of rice for the man-eating tiger that lives on the other side of the mountain from the sage… she re-members that tigers aren’t vegetarian and adds some meat sauce for the tiger and takes off up the mountain to find the tiger… when she reaches a place where fear would not let her go any further, she left the bowl and made her way back to the hut…

night after night, she would venture back in search of the tiger, stepping over the empty bowl and going alittle further and leaving another full bowl… one night as she was stepping over the previous night’s empty bowl, she saw the tiger coming towards her and she said that she meant him no harm and that she was on a mission for her soul… as he ate his nightly offering, she summoned her courage and plucked a whisker from his mouth and he pretended not to notice…

dancing down the mountain, the young woman couldn’t wait to return to the sage… the next morning, she made her way to the sage and handed him the whisker which he dropped into the fire and she watched the missing ingredient turn to ash… outraged, she asked why the sage did that and he asked her how she’d been able to accomplish such an impossible task… she recounted how each night she had faced her fear and made her way up the mountain to find the tiger… the sage then asked if the her heart was more dangerous than the heart of a tiger and she real-eyesed that in facing her fears, her heart opened… she now knew her heart, her fear, her soul… she journeyed to the wise center of being and to the fierce, magnificent radiance on the other side of the coin, so to speak…

facing the depths of the ocean of being is overwhelming… sitting in the timeless feelings of abandon and not abandoning ourselves, sitting in the fear and taking one more step is the eternal way of opening the heart ever more widely… fear is the thoroughfare of transformation… so when fear rises , know the true self is calling you into being more of the fullest expression of your true self…

breathe

take one more step

offer gratitude

celebrate!

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 130 – 4/25/2018

on this earth day, i turn to the words of eco-poet, environmental activist and sacred sage of farsightedness, Thomas Berry, to sing us home along the green path into beloved community…

may we live and put into practice with every step and every breath the dream of the earth…

Reflecting on Earth As Sacred Community

“It takes a universe to bring humans into being, a universe to educate humans, a universe to fulfill the human mode of being. More immediately, it takes a solar system and a planet Earth to shape, educate, and fulfill the human.

We can explain nothing if we cannot explain the whole. Our explanation of any part of the universe is integral to our understanding of the universe itself.

…we must think about and respond to the urgency of a renewal of the integral community of life systems throughout the Earth. Renewal is a community project.

What is needed is a new pattern of rapport with the planet. Here we come to the critical transformation needed in the emotional, aesthetic, spiritual, and religious orders of life. Only a change that profound in human consciousness can remedy the deep cultural pathology manifest in such destructive behavior. Such change is not possible, however, so long as we fail to appreciate the planet that provides us with a world abundant in the volume and variety of food for our nourishment, a world exquisite in supplying beauty of form, sweetness of taste, delicate fragrances for our enjoyment, and exciting challenges for us to overcome with skill and action. The poets and artists can help restore this sense of rapport with the natural world. It is this renewed sense of reciprocity with nature, in all of its complexity and remarkable beauty, that can help provide the psychic and spiritual energies necessary for the work ahead.

We come into being in and through the Earth. Simply put, we are Earthlings. The Earth is our origin, our nourishment, our educator, our healer, our fulfillment. At its core, even our spirituality is Earth derived. The human and the Earth are totally implicated, each in the other. If there is no spirituality in the Earth, then there is no spirituality in ourselves.

We need a spirituality that emerges our of a reality deeper than ourselves, a spirituality that is as deep as the Earth process itself, a spirituality born out of the solar system and even out of the heavens beyond the solar system. For it is in the stars that the primordial elements take shape in both their physical and psychic aspects. Out of these elements the solar system and Earth took shape, and out of Earth, ourselves.

In our contemplation of how tragic moments of disintegration over the course of the centuries were followed by immensely creative moments of renewal, we receive our great hope for the future. To initiate and guide this next creative moment of the story of the Earth is the Great Work of the religions of the world as we move on into the future.”
