Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 179 – 6/13/2018

drawing down the energy of today’s new moon of truth, a familiar soul question lives me… what is breaking your heart, breaking your heart so completely that the heart breaks wide open… a rush of images floods the banks of consciousness…

for nearly 150 years, Lady Liberty has welcomed to our shores the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free… now, this poem is being rewritten to say that when those fleeing oppression come to our shores we will treat them as criminals and snatch away their children and replaceingLady Liberty’s torch with a pair of handcuffs…

we are called to be a wold of peace built on justice guided by love… it begins inside of me and thee… and there is so much support activating outer action… families belong together is holding a day of action tomorrow, will you join me in living our mission?

let us revisit the truth of Lady Liberty…

The New Colossus

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 178 – 6/12/2018

peace is in the air – are you feeling it? this moment, this historic moment is one of celebrating peace… today, two world leaders met for the first time ever, shook hands and agreed to a pledge of no more war that will come in the form of a peace treaty ending a conflict of seventy years… following the meeting, Trump and Kim also pledged to recover the remains of American prisoners of war and those missing in action from the Korean War… this commitment was one of four plans outlined by the leaders after their historic summit, where they promised to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula…

on the eve of the new moon, a new day dawns, peace seeds are already sprouting filling the air with the fragrance and frequency of peace…

peace is in the air…

in the eternal chorus of the ocean singing to the cliff,
in the silent whisper of the stones,
in the coyote howling to the moon,
in the twinkling eyes of children,
in your beloved’s hand holding yours,
in the smile of a stranger,
in the good, the true the beautiful that one can witness all over the planet

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 177 – 6/11/2018

drawing down the energy of the darkening almost new supermoon in gemini, the moon of trailblazing, of listening to the soul song, of leaping in faith, fledgling aria reminds me of an old story from africa…

When a woman decides that she will have a child, she goes off and sits under a tree, by herself, and listens until she can hear the song of the child that wants to come.

And when the mother is pregnant, she teaches that child’s song to the women of the village, so that when the child is born, they will welcome her with that song.

And when the child goes through the rites of puberty, they come together to sing that song.

And when the child falls, or hurts its knee, they will pick it up and remind her of the song.

And when the child crowns a noble achievement, they will celebrate with that song.

And if ever … along the way … the child gets swept up in the world and loses her way, the villagers will come together and remind her of her song.

And finally, when the child passes away, they will honor her life by singing the song.

as we pause on the precipice of a new moon journeying into the unknown, may  we sing courageously…

happy astonishing light of being day!  falling on a day of cold rain, still i feel the field of radiant sun love in this re-TREAT weekend of being with my wildly exuberant, enthusiasm on steroids grandpuppy whose love lights the whole sky just as yours does… thousandfold thanks to all relatives for the radiance of  your presence, for this moment of puppy consciousness, pure presence, of re-joy-sing in the gift of the ever turning life cycle of the birth – death – rebirth mystery present in every breath…

For Presence

Awaken to the mystery of being here
and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence.

Have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.

Receive encouragement when new frontiers beckon.

Respond to the call of your gift and the courage to
follow its path.

Let the flame of anger free you of all falsity.

May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame.

today, as i contemplate the old story of there’s a spirit in everything, Rilke’s words arise organically as do Michelangelo’s…

I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.

and even more emphatically when he says…

Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.

aren’t these words all an excellent instruction manual on how to align with great spirit, rainbow mystery, the one heart, creative process, authenticity?…

yes, listen, listen, listen ever more deeply to our heartsong… release the spirit of the wise pilgrim navigating the journey, the genie always within every bottle/body…

and then, may we all proclaim, free at last, free at last…

Happy World Oceans Day!

Canada made the original proposal for World Oceans Day in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The day has been unofficially celebrated every June 8 since then, and, in 2008, the United Nations officially recognized it.

Today, I celebrate with a special pilgrimage to the sea of love energy, sacred space of dancing rainbow mystery, such a journey always brings me back to me… is there anything more deepening than listening to mother waters magnetizing us home… than breathing in the rhythms of waves… than flowing and ebbing with the tides under a waxing full moon…

As the First Peoples remind us and live… Mni Wiconi, Water is Life… Like the First Peoples and Sylvia Earle, I think of the ocean as the blue heart of the planet… It is the one true connection of all our relations – let us celebrate her everyday…

May I Be a Guard

May I be a guard for those who need protection
A guide for those on the path
A boat, a raft, a bridge for those who wish to cross the flood
May I be a lamp in the darkness

i awaken today with the clear intention that inspires a forty day purification in preparation for a bearing witness pilgrimage to memorialize suffering and transmute the trauma residues into creative compassion… the clear intention is seeing beauty in everything, being a holding container, a beholder, a hollow reed of love and peace and joy…

in this moment, this beautiful moment, we savor and offer thanks to sky and earth and sun and moon and stars and ocean and to beloved for breathing us alive…

in this moment, this beautiful moment, we listen to beloved’s hum as we gaze into her flowing mirror pulling us home to the heart ever more deeply…

in this moment, this beautiful moment, we answer beloved’s call to return to the stillpoint of equanimity where we live in harmony…

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 171 – 6/5/2018

today is the 50th anniversary of the shooting of Robert F Kennedy, a man who suffered deeply following the assassination of his brother, a man who faced darkness, who tamed the savage forces and transmuted them into a widening circle of compassion…

a mere two months earlier, the world was shaken by the murder of Martin Luther King… on this day of re-membering Bobby and the promise of rebirth he embodies, let us turn to his words of wise leadership in a moment of volcanic eruption…

I have bad news for you, for all of our fellow citizens, and people who love peace all over the world, and that is that Martin Luther King was shot and killed tonight.

Martin Luther King dedicated his life to love and to justice for his fellow human beings, and he died because of that effort.

In this difficult day, in this difficult time for the United States, it is perhaps well to ask what kind of a nation we are and what direction we want to move in. For those of you who are black–considering the evidence there evidently is that there were white people who were responsible–you can be filled with bitterness, with hatred, and a desire for revenge. We can move in that direction as a country, in great polarization–black people amongst black, white people amongst white, filled with hatred toward one another.

Or we can make an effort, as Martin Luther King did, to understand and to comprehend, and to replace that violence, that stain of bloodshed that has spread across our land, with an effort to understand with compassion and love.

For those of you who are black and are tempted to be filled with hatred and distrust at the injustice of such an act, against all white people, I can only say that I feel in my own heart the same kind of feeling. I had a member of my family killed, but he was killed by a white man. But we have to make an effort in the United States, we have to make an effort to understand, to go beyond these rather difficult times.

My favorite poet was Aeschylus. He wrote: “In our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart until, in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God.”

What we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence or lawlessness; but love and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country, whether they be white or they be black.

So I shall ask you tonight to return home, to say a prayer for the family of Martin Luther King, that’s true, but more importantly to say a prayer for our own country, which all of us love–a prayer for understanding and that compassion of which I spoke.

We can do well in this country. We will have difficult times; we’ve had difficult times in the past; we will have difficult times in the future. It is not the end of violence; it is not the end of lawlessness; it is not the end of disorder.

But the vast majority of white people and the vast majority of black people in this country want to live together, want to improve the quality of our life, and want justice for all human beings who abide in our land.

Let us dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: to tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world.

Let us dedicate ourselves to that, and say a prayer for our country and for our people.

may we dedicate ourselves to peace…

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 170 – 6/4/2018

what a totally awesome pilgrimage day simply being a free and easy wanderer dancing around the cosmos, floating in the buoyant sea which is to say that i fell into the deepest lucid dream state for what seemed a brief, shining moment and an eternity all rolled into one, a seamless kaleidoscopic vision of shifting images connected by the delicate threads of grandmother’s gossamer web…

everything so crystal clear, so all connected in the stillpoint, the spaciousness of emptiness with nowhere to go and nothing to do… simply being open to what is…. open, open, open… to the sounds of silence emanating from the heart’s wellspring of wisdom…

listening, listening to our heartsong

gathered in the field beyond right and wrong

circling sangha, caravan of re-joy-sing

attuned to love’s frequency, entrained to the bell’s ring

may we embody the generosity of brother sun, the imagination of sister moon, the grounded interconnectedness of the standing talls and the flowing nature of oceanic sky….
